auditions
The Center for the Arts of Greater Lapeer is holding open auditions for ourr upcoming youth theatre productions, Comic Book Artist and The Rehearsal. Auditions are 1-3 p.m. on April 20 at The PIX, 172 W. Nepessing Street, in Historic Downtown Lapeer. Youth ages 7-18 are welcome to audition for Comic Book Artist and youth 13+ can audition for The Rehearsal or both productions.

Rehearsals will take place on Zoom initially prior to transferring to being in-person at The PIX in Mid-June.

Performances for Comic Book Artist will be at 7:30 p.m. on June 28 and 2:30 p.m. on June 29.  Performances for The Rehearsal will be at 7:30 p.m. on August 16 and 2:30 p.m. on August 17. Professional actor Mary Beth Burns is directing Comic Book Artist and Kaleigh Polk will direct The Rehearsal.

Students will audition by reading from the script for the director, with no need to have anything prepared to perform.

Comic Book Artist, by Pat Lydersen, tells the story of Leonardo Sappovitz, who wants nothing more than to become a comic book artist.  When he gets a job as a janitor at Wonder Comics, he anxiously awaits the day that his boss will notice his drawings and discover his artistic genius.  It seems like that day will never come until Wunderman invests in a shipment of magical pens, guaranteed to bring to life any character his artists create.

The Rehearsal, by Don Zolidis, follows the story of a young teacher who tries to pull off a production of Guys and Dolls. However, putting a musical together is never easy, especially with a megalomaniacal stage manager, a lead who's convinced that Wicked is a much better show, and a girl who is clinically incapable of following directions (she has a doctor's note to prove it). And to make matters worse, there aren't nearly enough guys to be the Guys.
